Tomorrow, with the help of friends, we’ll pack the truck (26′ Penske). Friday we head out for Salt Lake City, or “Wabash” in our family slang, joining the tribe of pioneers, who share a particular esprit de corps, regardless of worldview. “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was to go.”
MaryAlice will be staying in Salt Lake, I’ll be coming back to Virginia, will be living in the cabin and working at Virginia Tech until I retire March 20, 2012.
Christ Jesus, watch over us and bless our move.
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
Saint Jude, pray that we be safe.
Saint Andrew, pray that we be wise.
Saint Lucy, pray that we be cheerful.
Saint Ambrose, pray that we be in harmony.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
I’ll be updating this posting, as I have opportunity.
[July 1] Packing went smoothly, thanks to many friends. Have room booked at pet-friendly Comfort Suites, in Mount Vernon, Illinois..arrived at Mt Vernon 6:30 central time. We went through beautiful farmland in Indiana; in Illinois alongside Interstate 64, many of the large, flat cornfields are now lakes.
[July 2] We hope to get to Lincoln, Nebraska this evening..got to Lincoln, but had to detour north to Omaha and then back down on 80 due to the new lakes/flooding in western Iowa. Useful illustration of the value of roadblocks: should one change one’s goal? And if not, the changed route has its own interests.
[July 3] We hope to get to Rawlins, WY without surprises..actually, pushed on to Rock Springs so less that 200 miles to go. The new Skibitsky baby is patiently waiting for her grand entrance 🙂
[July 4] Relaxing on Megan & Jeff’s front porch.
[July 5] Got Penske truck unloaded.
Good Afternoon Thomas,
It’s so great that you found our blog & our parish. It is a wonderful parish, with an amazing congregation. I attend the Bible Study you inquired about. It is always a wonderful experience, learning & socializing with a great group of people. We will be meeting on the 6th of July. I look forward to meeting you, I might be a few minutes late as I come straight from work, but I’m sure you’ll feel welcomed the minute you walk in. See you soon. Safe travels to you & your wife, as my mother always tells me before i get in the car, “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus take you safely”
Blessings, Rose
Thanks, Rose. Our daughter, Megan, says she doesn’t know if the baby will wait til we get there, so it’s apt to be hectic. Looking forward to meeting you.
